‘Global solutions to working with vulnerable children and young people’

  • Sharing international insights into the inclusion of socially and emotionally vulnerable children and young people.
  • Celebrating their resilience in surviving trauma, loss and displacement.
We are very excited to be planning this international conference. Its success depends on the contributions made by keynote speakers and presenters such as yourself. The conference programme will include 4 or 5 keynote speakers but much of the content will be the sharing of research, practice and experiences of those academics and practitioners working with, and for, these vulnerable children and young people as well as the CYP and their families themselves.  Key themes are likely to  include:
  • Mental health
  • Displacement
  • Inclusion
  • The lived experience

Presenters

We hope you will be interested in applying to come to the conference as a presenter. Presenters will usually work with a group of conference delegates for 20 minutes, sometimes longer.  If you apply you will need to provide an Abstract. This is simply a way of you describing your work to us so we can decide how your idea fits into the conference theme and organise how we group presenters. Sessions will usually be an hour long and three of you will present in turn t o a group of up to 20 delegates.  Many presenters also bring a PowerPoint to share with the delegates, and we can help you set this up. Individuals may co-author any number of abstracts but there is a limit of two submissions per registered presenter.

Extended Deadline!

Please submit your abstract(s) to SEBDA-IC-2023@sebda.org
  • If you haven't managed to submit your abstract yet you will be pleased to know we have extended the deadline to 12 July 2023. But please don't delay - the Academic Panel is working very hard reviewing the many abstracts we have already received and we need to review all the abstracts before the programme can be pulled together.
  • You will receive a response to your submission by the end of July at the latest.

Types of Presentations

Here are examples of the different types of presentation you might consider. They can be individual presentations or symposia (group presentations).

  • Research Presentations
If you are presenting research you have carried out, or are carrying out, individually or with others, it is useful to share any impact the research has had on practice, policy or theory. Often research presentations are structured to include how the research was carried out in relation to
- Introduction
- Ethics
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusion

  • Theoretical Presentations
Where the presentation presents your ideas or a theoretical argument, the current context to the presentation would be very useful.

  • Workshop
A workshop is an interactive session with clear educational and practical components. It usually involves demonstration and hands-on instruction on a particular practice, programme, methodology or skill. It includes time for participant activity and discussion. The length of a workshop is usually 60-90 minutes. The abstract for a workshop should include the rationale and outline for the workshop as well as the specific learning objectives.

  • Poster
The poster size is A0 (841x1189mm).   The posters will be in the shared space throughout the Conference but there will be a formal exhibition and the presenter(s) will ideally be in attendance during the poster exhibition to discuss their poster with conference delegates. The abstract should include a summary of the presentation and be as informative as possible, following the instructions above.

  • Other
If you have an idea which does not fit into the categories above, you are still very welcome to submit an Abstract.  We would welcome ideas that are alternative and perhaps creative.  The presentation could include narratives, poetry, music, dance, or art and could perhaps include sensory experiences.

  • Group Presentations or Symposia
A symposium is a session that is organised by one or more presenters and that includes two or three presentations followed by a discussion. All papers should be related to the theme of the symposium. The length of a symposium is 60-90 minutes. The abstract should contain the same information as for other  presentations. Here it is useful to know the name of the key presenter who will introduce the presentation and probably lead the discussion.  Please give us details of the other presenters too.

Submitting an Abstract

  • Abstracts should be in English
  • Include the names of the presenter or presenters, the organisation or organisations they are working for, and an email contact.
  • If there is more than one presenter, then tell us to whom we should write back.
  • Abstracts should include the relevance of the presentation to the conference theme and if relevant, the national or international significance of the presentation.
  • Abstracts should provide an overview of up to 300 words that describes the presentation you are planning.  See above for examples of the types of presentations that will be considered.
  • The total length of the abstract should be no more than 300 words.
  • In addition, please provide one sentence that summarises  your presentation - a  description that could be used as a tweet to promote your contribution to the conference.
  • A reference list (a list of what you have read) is not required.
